So long, and thanks for all the fish

So long, and thanks for all the fish

Exactly a year ago today I left, on a jet plane, not entirely sure when I’d be back again.

Several thousand photographs and sixty plus blog updates later it’s time to draw my year of amazing adventures to a close.

Over the last few days a number of people have asked me what has been the best bit of my trip. And, though it may sound glib, I always reply it is the friends I have made along the way.

I’ve been lucky enough to travel with some funny, bright, brave and occasionally odd people as I’ve headed around the world.

What brought us together is that essentially human quality of curiosity – a desire to understand more about the world around us sufficiently strong it pulled us off our sofas in the first place.

What kept us united were the inevitable trials and tribulations travel to somewhere new entails.

What left us laughing was our willingness to stop taking ourselves seriously and to reconnect with a childlike wonder, to try new things, even if we looked momentarily silly.

And what will keep each one of them, each one of you, in my heart, is that in ways both tiny and life-altering you have touched me with your kindness, your care and your love. And for that I will be eternally grateful.

But I realise that what most people really want to know when they asked this question, is “What is the best thing you did?”.

I tried to pick one, I really did.

I’ve managed to narrow it down to one hundred, which seems a good effort considering how many more precious memories didn’t make the cut.

It’s been a trip – and an absolute pleasure to have taken every one of you with me xxx

WOW – I feel emotional for you! So SO AMAZING! Good for you for taking life by the balls and making the most of it! Obviously 17, 18, 20, 21 and 97 were your favs – so happy to make an appearance 5 times! …and next time we get to sip a cocktail together, under some far flung sunset, I want all the details about number 43!

    Congratulations…now write the book.

…and thanks for letting me share a few moments…

Nina- Reading through this blog absolutely makes me fall in love with life that is to be lived larger than itself. I must say you acheived it and I am sure this would mean to millions out there who would be inspired the way I am currently drawn. I have been following your pictures on Facebook apart from the above best 100 and you surely experienced the most exhilerating and long standing desires of a human being.

Congratulations on your come back from globe trotting and now I surely know whom to reach out to for “travel tips” :)
